Development Log #9: Wrapping it Up


Hey~!

Time to start wrapping this project up! This will (hopefully) be the final devlog before the game's release, showcasing a bunch of things related to the still unfinished parts of the game such as the player model, custom animations, diegetic interface (HP), and yet again some nice additions to the menu intended to give it a bit more polished look. Now let's go into the details!

The player model has received significant upgrades compared to what we had before (which was just a default blocky character), both in aesthetics and functionality. Now the character looks more like someone who would be running around slashin' beats as you would expect, but that's not the only thing that comes with this update as previously said - the little neon lights that adorn the character's clothing also serve as health indicators! Once you take damage from an obstacle, the neon color will flash from blue to yellow, and so on all the way to red, which is when you'll know when you're about to die. Talk about cool!

Animations have also been improved. Instead of placeholder animations that were originally intended to test out the game mechanics, now the character has multiple custom-made animations for every action the player can perform - some examples being running and slashing the beats. They're also much smoother and responsive to player movement, conveying the specific actions in a much clearer way.

Finally, the menu has been tweaked a bit to show more of that spicy pink glow we all know and love. It pulses as well, just like the neon signs you see in real life! :O
